Dead Giveaway

His head comes up to my eyeballs. I tell him in another year he could be taller than me which is no small thing since I'm 5'8" and he's only 11. He's never been one to tell me exactly what's on his mind and as adolescence approaches I fear I will get less and less. He enters middle school this fall and it saddens me to think in the next few years he will figure things out his own way. He may not need me as much. His friends will soon be more exciting than his mother.

Yet he still wanders into the kitchen giving me a "Hey, Mom." He looks like he wants to ask me something as he sidles up close and I get the picture. I grab him in a big hug and though he tries to hide it, I see the smile. I feel his arms take hold and he lingers. The next few years may bring big changes for us and he will not be my "little" boy for long, but his smile tells me volumes. I think we'll make it through these upcoming, sometimes tumultuous teen years. The kid's got a soft spot for his mom. Thank You, Lord.

Tami, I am thankful for your sweet "mother's heart." Yes, this is a bittersweet time, and a time to be thankful for every moment with those kids. But I am confident your big boy-man will always have a soft spot for his mom. Your son reminds me of my husband, who always had a soft spot for "mom" and still does, treating her so kindly and lovingly, while still placing his wife and children first. He is amazing and I can envision your son being just like that.

Thanks for a beautiful post that at once reminds me to treasure these moments with my kids, and comforts me that I still have several years left with them!

Tami,

What a sweet post. You touch me so because I have a 5'4" (newly turned) 11 year old son. Those "hey mom" moments and hugs out of nowhere are priceless, aren't they?

Yes Tami, he will always need you. Even more than he realizes today. He may be bigger though!
Your post blessed me!

My "baby" will soon be 21 and he's 6'1". I am only 5'4". He engulfs me in his hugs. Your son will always need you. Even though he may want you to think that he doesn't. Those teen years can be a challenge but God can give you all the wisdom you need and the strategy to keep connected with him. It can be very exciting! :) Thanks for sharing. Blessings!

Raising boys is not easy, but it is also a lot of fun. I know that I was thankful that during that time we went through confirmation classes together :)...I know that boys don't like to admit it, but they love it when we hug them.
What a beautiful post for this thankful Thursday. Thank you for sharing, Tami.

Be blessed today and always.

I can relate since my kids are big . . . those hugs become more and more precious the older they get and the more they pull away from you! Wonderfully written, as always.

Boys/men never lose that soft spot for their mom. Please pray for my dad as his mom passed away on Saturday. Thanks for always being the sweetest friend.
