Skinny Mirrors

Yes, I'm still obsessed with mirrors. Call it vanity, a midlife crisis or just plain stupid. Shh. Don't say it. Anyway, you know how some mirrors are skinny mirrors? They make you look thinner than you are? Apparently my husband, Mr. I-don't-need-to-do-anything-to-look-great, has never been aware of the phenomenon.

Me: Was that mirror in our bathroom at the lodge a skinny mirror?

Kevin: What are you talking about, skinny mirror?

Me: You know, some places have mirrors that make you look skinny, like in dressing rooms. You look skinny when you try on the clothes so you buy them, but when you get home they don't look quite the same.

Kevin: There is no such thing. You are totally making that up.

Me: No, really, there is. Ask any woman. They'll agree.

Kevin: How could anyone make a skinny mirror?

Me: I don't know, but there's those weird mirrors in fun houses. It's possible. A skinny mirror is just a toned down version. A sneaky one.

Kevin: You are so full of it.

Me: No, I'm not. You ask any woman.

So I'm asking. Am I right, girls? You've encountered skinny mirrors, haven't you? Help me make my point! Show my husband I know what I'm talking about. Leave a comment so we can set my skeptic straight.

Lol, now that is an excellent invention.

Skinny mirrors exist. They do. Even in Canada. They were invented to trick women into buying cute clothing in stores. Once in a while they pop up in non-store locations. :)

We must be on a similar wave-length today....my post is also about mirrors, although Miss E hasn't quite developed a complex toward them yet. :)

Take care!

If I remember correctly, the mirror in the north ladies restroom at church is a skinny mirror. Try that one and see.

Maybe the skinny mirrors are the real mirrors and all the others are Fat mirrors!!!

Skinny mirrors do exist, I've seen them. I think it has something to do with the whole concave/convex reflection thing, not sure. But all I know is that a team of wild burros could not drag me in front of a FAT mirror, because those exist, too. I've seen them (and I almost went blind!)
Talk to you tomorrow at IOW.Marsha Y.

I have a tall mirror at the end of my hallway, and once when I was hosting a mommy group, a friend of mine said, "Oh, this is a skinny mirror!"

I do know that such a thing exists, but I didn't think that I had one in my house! (Personally, I think the one in my hall is just a normal mirror.) - Here's to hoping!

Denise :)

Hi Tami, I'm writing you because I just launched The Skinny Mirror www.theskinnymirror.com which can now be ordered on my Etsy Shop www.etsy.com/shop/theskinnymirror. The reason why I decided to make this mirror is because I pulled an old mirror out of my boyfriends attic three years ago, and for THREE years, it was really messing with the way I saw myself. I've never really been a body conscious person, but I started to ask my boyfriend on a daily basis "I think I'm gaining weight, do I look fat? It's wierd, I feel fat, but my clothes fit the same". He would always say "No! You look skinny! You're trippin'!". I didn't feel confident enough to wear my bikini anymore, didn't feel like dressing cute, I felt unattractive. I knew he would never lie to me but I still doubted him. One day I went to my mom's house and looked in her bedroom mirror and whoa, I looked skinny. She didn't have a skinny mirror, it was a normal mirror. That day I realized it was my mirror making me feel fat and decided to set out on an intense search to find a skinny mirror. I couldn't find them. I knew they existed because retailers have them to trick you into buying their clothes, but I wanted one for home because I knew what a fat mirror did to my self image. I felt strongly about naming it The Skinny Mirror because I didn't want anyone who bought it to be deceived. It just makes you slightly slimmer and slightly taller. One person told me, "It's really how everyone else sees you in the real world, but we are just so critical about our bodies that we can't see what they see, and The Skinny Mirror helps you to be not so critical. It compliments you." Feel free to email me if you have any questions!
